JASON TAYLOR

 Artistic Director/Staff Educator/Salon Owner

 

Born in Australia and later raised in Norwich, Jason has been hairdressing for nearly 26 years. He loves to turn out creative, interesting, classic or just plain bonkers haircuts on his wide ranging age of clientele from 12 to 70. Training privately at the world famous Vidal Sassoon Academy, Mayfair, London then qualifying with straight A’s, winning the best haircut and student award, he was the only class member to be offered a job with a company with such exacting standards.

 

Working at the South Molton Street Branch, just off London’s fashionable and exclusive Bond Street for a spell he later moved to work at one of Toni&Guys first London salons as they were making their first waves in the hairdressing world. He later set up and ran his first successful salon in 1995 at the young age of just 25.

 

After a few rewarding years doing so and then having a relationship split he decided he needed a fresh challenge and so decided to knock on the door of Celebrities favourite hairdresser Trevor Sorbie. Finishing his advanced vardering in a mere 3 weeks and in record time won him respect from both Trevor and Angelo Seminar (Two times British Hairdresser of the year and master of his craft) who said he was one of the best haircutters in the company.

 

He also won praise from a visiting Eugene Solomon (Global session icon and Numerous British Hair awards winner) which also meant so much to him as he was an inspiration while he was learning his trade. Jason loves his job and what he can do for people,

After doing platform work and having been an educator for such companies in London and Stockholm (Sweden), not to mention styling the hair of many celebrities, he has had great opportunities to travel and has worked with some amazing hairdressers such as five of Sweden’s Hairdressers and Colourists of the year and top Session stylists that work regularly on international Vogue and Elle shoots also.

 

Turning down an offer to open a Toni&Guy salon and training academy in Copenhagen (Denmark) he returned to England and eventually found himself back in Norwich. Although not believing in pushing his name above his team and others in the press he has won numerous awards for his salon and indeed for other salons also, in fact one of his cuts made it into a collection for Charles Worthington to which Charles went on to win British Hairdresser of the year.

 

Previously taking a sabbatical and studying 3-D design at art college, he prides himself in taking an active role in all creative projects for Kinki Boutique including shows, photo and video shoots, press editorials, printed literature and interior design and he has also designed the architectural features such as the sloping glass on the shop front of Kinki Boutique, the sloping mirrored wall and same degree angle reception and partition walls as well as the fibre optic ceilings and blacked out backwash area that has massage chairs.

I own numerous design and architects books and draw inspiration from people such as Norman Foster, Terence Conran, Karim Rushid, Tom Dixon, Philippe Starck, Verner panton, Charles and Ray Eames and Le Corbusier amongst others. I believe this keeps a strong corporate branding to our company so that when you walk into our salon you get a real sense of what makes us tick and you are not taken in by a veneer that has been created by somebody else.

 

“Being lucky enough to of traveled through nearly 30 countries including Asia, Australasia, America and most of Europe etc has opened my eyes to so much around me” Jason prides himself in being unpretentious and he treats everybody with the equal respect that they deserve.

 

He has a straight talking humorous approach to life and likes to have fun while he works which his clientele and team find refreshing, although he can run behind a little sometimes.

 

Luckily Kinki Boutique has its massage chairs to make your wait a memorable relaxing experience. His eye for detail and beauty is second to none and his long serving clientele travel as far away as Germany and Austria let alone the other side of England and London.

 

He charges a fraction of what he used to in the previous top salons in the country and beyond that he has worked in. He has lots of other interests outside of hairdressing such as playing guitar,music, snowboarding,design, fashion, D.J.ing and like most adrenaline junkies riding motorbikes. He feels that this has helped stop him from losing his love of his craft by him not getting too wrapped up in hairdressing alone.

 

He has a beautiful caring and fun wife named Sarah who works in Orthopedic and Trauma theatres when she isn’t taking care of their young boy Indianna-Tiger, who they are both hoping will become a rock star one day (like his uncle Eugene)

 

Jason has been nominated in this years Womens Loreal Colour Trophy Award Finals. He is also in the final 3 shortlisted nominees for the N.H.F (national hairdressers federation) Britain’s Best Hairdressing Awards.
